Mel Stottlemyre Jr. is a retired American professional baseball pitcher turned coach. He was born on November 13, 1963, in Sunnyside, Washington. He is the son of former Major League Baseball pitcher and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Sr.
Stottlemyre Jr. played in the MLB from 1990 to 2008 as a relief pitcher for various teams, including the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, and Boston Red Sox. He pitched in a total of 19 games during his career and had a 4.91 ERA.
After retiring as a player, Stottlemyre Jr. began his coaching career in the minor leagues, before eventually becoming the pitching coach for the Seattle Mariners in 2009. He also served as the bullpen coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the pitching coach for the Washington Nationals.
Additionally, Stottlemyre Jr. has been involved in charitable endeavors, including founding the Mel Jr. Foundation, which provides support and resources for families affected by cancer.
